Enviroment Concepts

The first one  is going with a more realistic feel and the environment lends its self well to the act. We discussed and wanted to go for a more old and decayed look. there is a lot of old wood in this one, from the floors to the table and roof beams. the roof beams are an important factor in the design as that is where nina will hang her self. i made the room for the beginning quite plain, without decoration, emphasising the dullness of the room, it is purely functional, nothing to distract the person using the room. i wanted to create an atmosphere that would emphasise the miserableness of her situation. i thought the wooden stairs would be useful to the idea of the theme as typically through history the steps to the gallows were made of wood. the attic is nice and roomy with the option of skylights and the hanging sheets almost give it a slightly eerie feel to the room.

In the second environment concept i wanted it to have bit more concrete and plaster based in the materials that would make the rooms.there is more scope for grungy looking cracked plaster textures. on second thoughts the attic on the second one seems a bit smaller but there should be enough room. not all attics span the entire roof of the house.

Pics from my Look Book + Palletes

 My look book was a steady progression throughout the semester, some is very early concept, some is more refined colour palletes.

  The most muted- almost monochrome but with green/blue tinges- very much the colours of a dreary day.
This one goes from clinical to natural- i simply liked the strange contrast and thought it could work with the contrast we are trying to draw between reality and dream state;
This one is jewel toned and goes from purple to gold echoing the colours described in the poem, i like them because they could represent a journey from melancholy/ mourning to freedom and contentment.

Final (?) Turnarounds

Here are the raw scanned turnarounds, i still need to fiddle with them in photoshop to make them bible- worthy.

Character Rethink

Jo made the decision to re-vamp the character designs as they stood so i started by trying to sketch outside of my comfort zone, then with guidance from her, arrived at new character designs we were both happier with.

Choreography part 2

Still working on choreography. Here you can find few versions of the dance sequence. I had a small problem with trying to figure out how to approach this task. In the end I decided to edit existing reference material and play  with selected movements, treat them as a puzzle game. We still have a session planed with Alicja and Tricia. But that will happen after the hand in. The main difference between the choreographies lies in the climax moment.A dance tempo, timing and camera shoots will change. The main purpose of it is to check if the movement flows within the dance.

Here - a version that seemed to pleased both Charlie and Slava. Nina in the main moment dances with Death:

Nina goes on her one. Climax is a solo dance.

Nina's solo dance with slight change in the movement. Solo dance is shorter and starts with the spin.
